Professional Development

Intro

'This area, though not exclusive, is more directed towards people in the sector, or who are already familar with my work. If you would like a more detailed description, you may wish to check the page 'About'

Thanks so much.
Abena Addo

In the image above, (Thanks to Phil Polglaze for this and some other images below) the piece in front of my face is part of my latest theme, and behind my head are two of my earlier projects, which I intend to add to
.

Below are some of my images that capture aspects of my practice.

The first two, shows my most recent pieces, from an ongoing theme, and the last ones are some smaller pieces (In progress) that I work on that compliments my larger images.

Snap
Shots

As we are living in a digital age, and a fast pace world, it is not always 'in the flow of life' to use a sketchbook, and to this end, I use a camera to record snippets of life that visually stimulate me. I get ideas from various sources. I like to keep up to date with what is happening around me, and for this purpose, I take 'snapshots'. Here are a selection of my more recent favourites.

Up to this point, my primary focus has been the composition of the image, and other formal devices in creating the image, more than the technical side of photography, as such, which is why I refer to them as 'snapshots', though I would like to further develop that side, I don't want to detract from the other work that I do, but I think I can still do that by getting a DSLR camera. Anyway, these are some simple snapshots, for now, that make best use of available light sources. Hope you like them.

Observing

I also just enjoy 'people-gazing' and capturing those unique moments, such as in this image from the slide show (Shown below), and this further informs my practice, it may not

necessarily be in a direct way, but by improving my overall sense of what makes a good image, colour, and general visual communication, that are important aspects of Art.

 Engagement

An important part of an Artist's role, in my opinion, in order to ensure it's relevance, growth, and interest level is to be engaged with contemporaries, and so I regularly attend cultural events and support other Artists. You can see some examples in these images. I have quite a few, so will extend soon.

Engagement (Continued)

I also initiated an online gallery specifically aimed at increasing the online presence of perhaps those who were a little skeptical of what it was all about, and particularly for it to be a 'non-judgemental' yet still showing work of a high technical or otherwise 'quality'.

Diversity

Is of great importance to me, especially in today's increasingly volatile climate, and in relation to the Arts in general, I feel that the contribution of Black Art and Culture, in particular is vastly underplayed. And I think it is imperative that Black people can see they also 'have a stake' in art.
I contribute to this forum, and if anybody wishes to be involved or have their work featured. You can click here blackartcity.com

Thanks for visiting my website. I may switch things up
